At The Front Lines of Fashion

TREND Spotting: Combat Boots

Womens Combat Boot
Bold & Rebellious
Lucyna Combat Boots
All the rage in the 1990s, thanks to trendsetters such as Lisa Loeb and Alanis Morissette, the combat boot has paved its way back into the fashion front lines. This season, if you pair a modern version of this edgy revival with the right outfit and a commanding sense of confidence, you’ll combat the urban jungle, the suburban streets, or the rural roads in bold style.
Originally valued as high-fashion apparel in the grunge, punk, gothic, and hipster scenes, "Women no longer need to feel confined to one look or the other,” writes the Examiner, "pairing a traditionally feminine piece with a rough-and-tough military look instantly adds a contrast that's sure to be as commanding as a drill sergeant at roll call.”

Rugged Femininity

In other words, opposites attract. The toughness of the Lucyna Combat Boot with Buckle Strap and Side Zipper, for example, paired against the soft feminine contrasting materials of a light pretty above-the-knee dress, creates an intriguing stylish balance—one that adds a slight touch of visual interest and a whole lot of modern chic. Add a fitted blazer, this outfit can be worn afternoons to work then seamlessly transitions to evening so it can be worn on a date.
When paired with your favorite skinny jeans, a basic black or white tee, and a fitted leather jacket, the Macalia Studded Combat Boot or the Madalyn Classic Womens Combat Boot  creates a casual style that exudes certainty. Add some bangles and leave the boots untied for an even more purposeful vibe.

For a flirty approach, grab a soft short skirt, throw on a pair of tights, and lace up those Lemmore Classic Booties or the Gammble Combat Boots. Feeling both feminine and confident, you’ll conjure up a comfortable stride and a flirty attitude.

Style vs Fashion

What's the difference between style and fashion? Are they the same thing? Does it matter?

No, they're not the same thing. And yes, it does matter.

To have a sense of fashion is to know which trends are big right now, to know which are the hot colors of the season, to be the first to sport that unique look that everyone will want to have a few weeks or months later.

To be fashionable is to be in the "now" just a moment before everyone else. What's fashionable today, may not be fashionable tomorrow.

To have style is another thing entirely. Fashion changes, style doesn't. If fashion is about a constantly renewed "now", style is about the ever-present "always". To be stylish is a character trait, something that doesn't change regardless of whether the a certain fashion trend is up or down.

You can look at the film stars of years ago like Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn or Sophia Loren and instantly recognize their style. They would be stylish today, no matter what the "in" look is.

If fashion tells you what to wear, style then is how you wear it. A fashion trend is something out there for anyone to grab. Style is entirely of your own making. It's how you -- and only you -- put together a look.

Somebody with a poor sense of style could wear the latest fashion, and not look good. And it's also true that someone with great style could put together an outfit around jeans and white shirt and exude grace and glamour.

So which is better? Why both, of course.

Welcome to Shoe Land's blog. Our mission is to keep you up to date on the latest fashion trends. So you can be fashionable.

And our mission is to share style tips, so you can be stylish.

What to wear and how to wear it. That's what we're all about.

So you can look fabulous.
